Went to northern Sydney today for the test.
Didn't ask about the rapid test today. Just told them I wanted a test because it's now past the window period. It's the reason I give every time.
This clinic provides the option of receiving the result by SMS the next day. I guess I will be very nervous from now till I get the result tomorrow.
I had an unprotected oral sex 25 days ago. I was the one receiving it (he gave me blowjob).
Nurses and some of the sources I found online said that oral sex carries a low risk for hiv transmission. There were actually some reported cases of transmission happening this way. But usually it's because the person who performed oral sex also received cum in his mouth and there might be sores or wounds in his mouth.
I don't know about the hiv status of the person who gave me the blowjob.
A lot of experts confirmed that saliva does not carry hiv that is infectious though pieces of RNA or DNA were picked up in saliva. They said in order for the virus to be infectious it has to be 'intact'. Also, there may be hiv antibodies in the saliva of an hiv positive person and that saliva has some enzymes that make it hard for the virus to remain intact or be infectious.
But still I'm worried coz there's no absolute answer. Like I said, I'm tired of all the fears and worries and uncertainties.
I hope everything will be fine tomorrow. And if it's fine tomorrow, I will have to plan for the next test.
A 4th-generation test that looks for p24 antigens and antibodies have a window period of 28 days according to the UK guidelines.
The 4th-generation tests were able to detect the virus, on average of 5-7 days after the highly sensitive RNA tests turn positive. (Based on evaluations done on 4th-generation tests)
So if RNA tests have a window of 10-14 days, add another 7 days, the 4th generation tests will have a window of 17-21 days. Also refer to this article: BC Medical Journal
But again these are just average values. So, to be on the safe side, it's worth following the 28-day window, at least.
I know it's funny that I am 'giving out advice' here though I am not sure about my status yet. But I hope by sharing this here, it will be helpful to some of you.
So now the 0.42 km.
So after the test today, I decided to stop at the next station instead of going home.
Actually on my way to the clinic, I had already been checking my Jack'D constantly for the distance between me and him. I knew he must be in that suburb. That's where his college is, and also where he used to work at a newsagent.
I went to the newsagent first. I felt like I was a thief. I was afraid if he was there, he would see me before I see him. No he wasn't there.
So I went to his college. There were eight floors to check out. Nope, he wasn't in the college.
And then I walked around the suburb, to different corners to check the distance. I was trying really hard to figure out where he was.
He must be doing his internship, i guessed. It shouldn't be a date or just going out with friends because he had been there since morning.
I just kept walking and walking and looking at my phone for more than an hour. The closest I could get was 0.42 km.
Accidentally discovered this place. It was so beautiful and how much I hoped he was there to share it with me.

The one where they test for p24 is rather sensitive according to one of my lecturers. And she mentioned that it's detectable by day 22. I'm not too sure about the details myself. But either way once you get it done and get the results you wouldn't have to worry any more.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry too much (:
